This is how I roll

1 Jul

Big-city backyards can have a country flavor. But you have to pronounce it "flava."

Old school. And also, I like to use hyphens and dashes inappropriately — a lot. But, that’s not what we’re talking about. So stop thinking about it and focus. Geez, did you not take your Ritalin today? Anyway, what we are talking about is me being old school. One of the 873978234 times that Mike McClure reinforced to me that we are basically soul mates (not the sexy kind — the we-share-the-same-soul-except-you-wear-uglier-shoes kind) was when he wrote this lyric (not that I was there when he wrote the lyric, but I heard it at some later date): “Because I’m weird, and I like old stuff.” I mean, that’s SO ME. I’m weird and I also like old stuff. Like clotheslines with sheets on them. I might wash my sheets more often now that Spencer strung that clothesline up for me, just so I can look out the window and see sheets blowing in the wind. And let me tell ya, in this dryness and hotness, I think the clothesline is faster than the dryer. For reals.

Speaking of dryness and hotness, you may have noticed a change in color scheme here at Crawdads. It’s our summer look.

Speaking of summer, it’s a very important weekend. 4th of July! So why don’t you do what I did and head on over to Landee’s to get a free download? I printed mine and put it in an extra frame I had. It’s about as festive as my decorating gets around here. Just for variety, you can also get a cute 4th printable here.

If you haven't figured it out yet, I don't have a DSLR, so get used to the flash.

Speaking of decorating, I ran across some interior decorating blogs yesterday and it kind of made me feel guilty about how I have put so little effort into having any type of cohesive cuteness in my house. So, I decided to visit a place my friend Brooke blogged about recently. The Rink is in an old skating rink building around NW 32nd and Rockwell that is basically a huge garage sale. It’s got tons of different vendors and a bunch of really cute stuff. I may or may not have been in there for more than two hours. I got some deals, I did. I will share them with you once I get everything organized. You have to be careful because some of the vendors really over price things. But, if you are a seasoned thrifter like me, you know what’s legit. I loved every single thing about it except the temperature (kind of warm) and the music. It was ’50s doo wop and I am just not down with that. Down doobie doo down down come on come on down doobie doo down down. No. No. No.

Everybody have a safe and happy 4th! And, in an effort to be fair, go buy some fireworks so that the fireworks vendors don’t go broke, but don’t shoot them off so that no one’s house burns down. Cause it’s dry. Just save them until after it rains. A lot. And invite me because you know I’m too cheap to buy that crap but it sure is fun.

I love you.

Love that you found the rink! Also – if you go on the weekends they serve hotdogs and lemonade AND have a live band! LOL – it’s real oldschool!

I love The Rink! We did some fireworks and a neighbor hag called the police. It was delightfully trashy – especially when my husband got into an argument w/ her. Nice.

Hope you had a great 4th & that someone invited you over ;).
