Sure, it’s cute now

28 Sep

While we’re talking about my childhood, I might as well tell you that I haven’t always been as cool as I am now (also I’m putting off my workout so I decided to blog). I mean, I was still cool, just not quite at the ice cold level we all now enjoy.

Making the top five list of loserish things I did as a kid is thumb-sucking. Until first grade. Addictively. First it was a pacifier and when the ‘rents decided I was too old for that and took it away, I decided to show them how resourceful I could be at satisfying my urges. Thank the Lord above that I had parents who cared about my potential to be mercilessly ridiculed in the very near future if they didn’t nip that in the bud (I’m not sure if seven years old actually counts as nipping it in the bud or not, but I give them a break because they didn’t have Google to solve all their problems back then).

Anyway, my mom ended up driving me from Marland all the way up to Wichita one night a week for thumb-sucking cessation therapy. I don’t remember too much about the therapy except that I got to make collages with glitter and macaroni on poster board. And it worked. Praise the Lord.

So, I was sharing that fancy little gem of a story when my mother-in-law told us that she too was hooked on the thumb and didn’t kick the habit until third grade.

I think I’m going to need some macaroni and glitter…

Haha it was third grade, Cathy! I’ll remove you if it will help you forget the trauma! Krissy, apparently your mother didn’t love you enough to take you to thumb therapy!! Lol y’all are cracking me up.
